Live locusts are a good alternative to crickets as they are slower moving which makes them easier to handle. Their higher protein level is also beneficial for egg-laying lizards. Because they are slower moving they are easier for lizards to catch and eat. If a lizard keeper should accidently put more locusts in with the lizard than they are able to eat at once there is no danger of locusts biting the lizards back. It is important to dust your locusts before feeding to the host animal with a good quality calcium, vitamin and mineral supplement once or twice a week and a good idea to dust with a calcium only supplement for all other feeds.
